Preparing a Mooring Bouy

Tired of throwing an anchor every time you moor? Tired of pulling the same anchor out of the water every time you go boating? The solution is a mooring buoy.
Mooring buoys not only save you some work and time, but also creates a small ecosystem. The mushroom anchor (or what ever you use as an anchor) is an ideal place for the establishment of sponges and marine flora. After some flora has been formed, small fishes and other small marine animals will live around the anchor.

Many conservation societies have also sponsored the use of mooring buoys. Using a mooring buoy eliminates the possibility of hitting and harming marine animals, like manatees.

A good mooring buoy should look like the image to the left.

Please consult your local laws before preparing and installing your mooring bouy. Mooring bouys may be prohibited in some areas.
