Green Sea Turtle
Spanish Name: "Tortuga Verde"
(Chelonia mydas mydas)
| The Green
Sea Turtle is actually brown. It's name is derived from it's green colored
fat, which results form the tutle feeding on sea grass (Thalassia).
They can weight up to 300 pounds and may be found all around the island.
This is the most fished specie of the sea turtles family because it's meat is considered to be of higher quality. This and the loss of it's habitat are the main reason for the decline in the species population. |
