Leatherback Sea Turtle
Spanish Name: "Tinglar-Baula"
(Dermochelys coricea)


      The Leatherback Sea Turtle is the biggest of the Sea Turtle family. The can grow to 7.8 feet long and weight some 1,485 pounds.

     This species considered to be endangared because of overfishing, egg collecting and beach alterations, and loss of habitat.

 The Island of Culebra have been designated as critical habitats for  the Leatherback Sea Turtle, specifically:
        - Playa Resaca
        - Playa Brava
Fishing Sea Turtles is prohibited by Law.
